Arthouse Pillows is run by four girls, so it is not a surprise if we instantly accept a challenge to "spice up" a room like this. The owner of this room had just moved into the majestic estate, and she wanted to make her bedroom look classic and elegant, but still have a bit of a modern touch. The room itself was stunning without furniture. As you can see from the photo above, it already had mouldings and vintage artwork over the headboard.

Before our intervention, the queen-sized bed had an abundance of gigantic white pillows. Since all-white pillows are for hotels only (take note!) we decided to get rid of all of them. We then placed two fluffy white pillows, and two small brown pillows. By doing this, we are giving people something to focus on whenever they see the bed. Before, the bed was only white, and it looked flat because of that. Now, there is a focal point in the bed itself, and we're not even done with the rest of the room yet!

The rest of the room was filled with many cream, bronze, and nude elements, so we decided to play with that. Wooden vintage furniture also spotted the room, and the owner wanted to keep them, so we ended up giving it something to contrast. We wanted the room to have a real Parisian feel, and having something printed would contradict that, so we went ahead and stitched on these cream pillows. The designs on the pillows are made of real French quotes and stamps, with the cursive handwriting as just a bonus. They turned out great, if we'd say so ourselves.

For the final touch, we made these beautiful vintage throwpillows for the huge walk-in closet/dressing room. The walk-in closet looked like it fit a queen, and it already had royal elements, so we just enhanced that with these. The black frilly outline of the pillows made them stand out among the various nude shades. These pillows were our favorite because they looked so elegant and feminine, and it made us feel like we were in Paris!

We are so happy to have worked on this project. If you're looking for similar products, please refer to our SHOP. If you want us to customize your pillows like we did here, please CONTACT US.

HWWD: Plain White Rooms

This is a new segment on the blog that we'd like to call "How We Would Decorate"! Basically, we are going to present ourselves with a design problem and we will fix it using our combined knowledge on architecture and interior design. Of course, we are also going to discuss how we can decorate the spaces with our many collections of pillows.

This week, we'll tackle the most common problem: plain white rooms. Plan white rooms are those rooms that are painted with white from floor to ceiling, and have the most pale floors one can imagine. Usually, one can find this kind of room at apartments and newly-renovated spaces. It isn't a surprise that there are so many white rooms these days, since people are opting for the minimal designs than the complicated ones. In this HWWD, we will address questions of those who want minimal spaces, and of those who want to splash color onto those white spaces.

FOR THE MINIMALIST
Go monochrome if you're aiming for that minimalist vibe. If you want it to be extra modern, go for whites and blacks! The white and black give off a sense of subtle sophistication, and it works for both male and female too.

It doesn't matter how many patterns of black and white you have, as long as you keep them even. Meaning, keep the ratio of big patterns to small patterns equal. Keep in mind that sizes of pieces matter, as well. Take this tip from us: a big rug will immediately fill up space, so be sure to find the best rug to make your space look cozy, but not too small.

FOR THE COLOURIST
Is that the right term? Anyway, for those who'd rather look at vibrant color, we have tips for you, too. What you want to do first is to cover up those walls. Choose big pieces such as the wall decoration below to instantly add something interesting to your bare walls. Our preference is to go with something neutral for walls so that you can do whatever you want with the rest of  your furniture. Then, pick another strong color and buy a few pieces of those in varying shades. After that, buy neutral pieces that go with your strong base color such as the black and white pillows and nude pillows in the photo below.

Don't pick too many colors or else it will look like someone spilled buckets of paint over your room! Stick to the nude and then add your few splashes of color. It will look sophisticated.

That's how we would decorate a boring white room. How would you do it? Tell us your design ideas in the comments section.

Kid at Heart

A few weeks ago, one of our clients named Erik came by the office to discuss what may be one of the most exciting projects we've had. Basically, we needed to decorate his new flat's living room with the masculine style he wanted. However, he also needed it to look, we quote, "Like the old kid that I was." We were confused with what to do, but we were also ridiculously thrilled to work on the project.

Fast forward, we came up with five throw pillow designs for Erik's living room. They featured distorted and "personified" characters, with mostly bears since Erik's hobby is bear watching. We decided to give these pillows a touch of hipster to suit Erik's taste. A twenty-something-year-old living by himself needs a cool pad where he can do his own thing, don't you think? We also thought the designs would be great conversation starters whenever Erik would throw a party.

Erik was ecstatic when we showed him our designs! We were so relieved that our hard work had paid off, and the only thing left to do was to print them on linen fabric. The outcome looked gorgeous with the paint as vibrant as ever, and the colors mixing perfectly. Our pillows fit right in with Erik's existing set of neutral-toned linen pillows.

Erik appreciated that the designs weren't as childish as he had expected. He expressed his enthusiasm about their childlike feel and nostalgia, but above all, he was grateful that they reminded him of the joys of being a kid.

There is a "huge" debate on whether His &  Her Pillows are appropriate or not, but if you ask us, we think they're adorable!

They are simple, but they still give life to a seemingly dull room. The handwritten text that is placed on mostly all of the His & Her Pillows looks so elegant and cute, especially when the base color of the pillow is white. You can actually add these pillows to any kind of color scheme because they will fit in nicely, no matter what.

His & Her Pillows are also lovely as a reminder of a couple's love for each other. Each morning they wake up, they'll see these pillows and the person laying next to them. And each night, they'll see these first and remember how much they care for each other. His & Her Pillows are a great gift to newly married couples, or even to those couples who've decided to move in together! Both of them will appreciate it.

Do you think His & Her Pillows are cute? Let us know down below! And if you like them, maybe you'll like our new collection of His & Her Pillows in the SHOP.
